I hope all of you are enjoying beautiful weather as I am. It has finally cooled down.

It broke my heart when I lost my little Greyhound, Diz, last month. She was my beloved little girl for 11-years and I can't believe how much it hurt to lose her. I don't believe I'll get anymore dogs. I still have that crazy bird of mine.

So, I stopped blogging and have been focusing on a new book. I have that old passion back again and this time, I'm using my sense of humor, which some may call my crudeness but regardless, I'm having a great time writing again.

How about the rest of you?

Forum: Old Messages

Magnolia is very, very ill. She's in ICU on dialysis and her blood pressure is 70/40. Sometime after her breast reconstruction, she contacted MRSA but it went directly into her bloodstream so it has really done a number on her. She's in and out of consciousness.

Jerry said he will keep me updated but please pray for her. I know if one of us was ill, she'd be the first on her knees in prayer. If you don't pray, please send positive, healing thoughts her way.

Thanks.

Forum: Survivers Helping Victims

Overcomer & Wounded-Healer

Hi, everyone: My name is Alice. I call myself an overcomer and wounded-healer. I got a divorce after 31 years of verbal and physical abuse. I've written my memoir: Ghost Child to Triumph (from a child with no voice, to someone who speaks up against injustice), and have amazing endorsements: Elie Wiesel, Dr. Elaine Weiss, Dr. Larry Dossey, Clint van Zandt, Alice Miller, Nikki Giovanni, Patricia Evans, etc., etc....and plan to self-publish. Just trying to figure out which publisher would be the best. Very confusing.

I grew up with a single mother (never knew my father).....she was verbally and physically violent. Lived in a 120-year old tenement house with cockroaches and rats (they didn't visit often; fear of my mother, LOL), molested by a drunken neighbor while sleeping; mother had left me alone at night, had my hand held over an open fire by another drunken (woman) neighbor.....Snow which came in thru a crack in the wall....Extreme poverty: no phone, refrigerator, car or bathroom (toilet in the attic; always a joy in the dead of night).

I had never heard of spiritual abuse until it happened to me; my church of 31 years voted me out membership, b ecause I got a divorce after 31 years of abuse and then let him live in my house for awhile.
I fought the system for 18 months to try and prevent the pastor (of disaster) from "counseling" any more women, because 2 of the women wanted to commit suicide (because of his "counseling" skills).

In the end (on my birthday), my name was put up on a big screen, followed by the words: "Conduct Unbecoming a Child of God." I was called to a meeting of deacons (17 "men"), not allowed to have a woman with me and asked: "Are you still having sex with your ex?!" No boundaries.

I believe we are all here to make a difference, and I am the moderator of an abused survivors' group.

I went back to school last year (age 61), and won a scholarship; it was easy; all I had to do was write about my life. I was 1 of 10 recipients out of 1,600 women in the U.S. and Canada.

One of my passions is to get the message out there regarding verbal abuse; it is rarely recognized nor understood, not even by some therapists. 1 in 3 women are being abused and it all begins with verbal abuse.

It took me 25 years to find the book which saved my life: TheVerbally Abusive Relationship by Patricia Evans; one Ph.D. said, "It is the cornerstone of civilization." I concur.

I'd love to hear from anyone reading my story. I just joined the NABBW.

wacalice@aol.com

P.S. i am not to "techie" and may not be able to get back into the forum again, LOl, LOL

Love and Hugs to all my sisters, here

Alice (overcomer and wounded-healer)

Forum: The Art of Healing

Teeth Marks?

The latest report is Rihanna had a bloody nose, bloody, split lip and teeth marks. What kind of animal bites another human being? I asked this about my ex when he spit in my face. I didn't know people actually did that but what did I know back then?

I hope she can stay true to herself and stay away from this animal.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music/02/10/chris.brown/

Forum: Old Messages

I've never been so excited or seen so much excitement with bringing in a new president! There is a huge wave of hope taking over our country. I saw John Kennedy today as Obama took the oath. Really...took me back many years when I was just a young girl and Kennedy took office. Don't you kind of feel like a heavy burden has been lifted from your shoulders?

I'm not Bush-bashing. Just stating how I feel and see it.

Forum: Point of Power

Afraid mine aren't as exciting as Patty's move to Austin but this year I plan on getting heavily into my volunteer work for the local shelter and have two names of women to call who have different dv projects in town.

Plan on keeping my body in shape with exercise on the Wii board and walking with Diz. Not so much for weight as for health reasons. I'm not getting any younger!

I'm also going to start working on my book, which is currently on disk, waiting to be loaded onto my new computer.

That should keep me off the streets for a while!

Forum: Point of Power

I am so jazzed to read that OJ is going away for 15 years. I wish he would have gotten the max., life. He will probably never be put in with the general population at prison. They would probably kill the jerk.

                    Hugs,
                  Magnolia

Forum: Survivers Helping Victims

This has nothing to do with dv but have you seen the movie Twilight? Oh my word. The lead vampire is the cutest thing. He almost replaced Johnny Depp on my lust list until I saw him interviewed. He's a very immature 22-year old who is British and has stopped washing his hair. That kind of took the wind out of my sail. But, do see the movie. It's great...other than listening to the childish 16-year olds in the audience.

Forum: Point of Power

Speaking out

I receive the newsletter from the Family Violence Prevention Fund in my email. The newsletter is called Speaking Out. This month they had a story about a new campaign for women of The Congo. The genocide in Rwanda back in 1994 is now being played out just across Lake Kivu into the Republic of the Congo. The women are being raped, sexually mutilated, forced to become concubines, and many have been killed. About 200,000 have become displaced and now reside in refugee camps living in mud huts with little access to health care and malnutrition is widespread. It's terrible. The world has become so much smaller with access to communications such as the internet keeping us up to date on happenings worldwide. This article is very interesting and disturbing. They are raising awareness of violence against women around the world.

                                        Magnolia

Forum: Recommended Reading
